My love of clay stretches back to high school, where I first learned to throw on the wheel. Years in art school steered me toward more sculptural and handbuilt work. Later, steel and mixed media gave further expression to it.
My artwork has always been more about form, rather than narrative. It is the quieter ways that speak loudest, or deepest, to me.
In recent years I have returned to the wheel, exploring glazes and making pottery. In addition to my other art making, this brings me a unique pleasure. Learning from the work means paying attention to the balance, the weight of the pots, and my relationship to them. Responding to the chemistry and the subtle action of the glaze.
To make pots that people use daily, that they enjoy using. That is the best.
